It’s certainly very unofficial, but it’s on this Sunday! Somewhere in Duved the small mountain elite will do whatever it takes to bring home the prestigious first price in The Swedish Small Mountain Championship.
"The organizer Calle Klockar is stoked about the big interested, but also sort of stressed out because he fears that this little illegal happening might end up bigger then the Alpine World Cup."
Last year the world premiere of the unofficial Swedish Championship in small mountain riding ended up as a great success. The concept is easy, and it also works very well for those with bad sense of location. Or those with ”after ski legs” instead of big loggs for thighs. Two turns, find the drop and you’re done. It’s a head to head battle, where the winner of each heat make it through to the next round. What the judge ”Påsen” (The Bag) is looking for is a bit more unclear, but he enjoys snus and good style to give some hints.
32 men and 16 woman has already signed up, among them last year’s winner Fabian Omne. The organizer Calle Klockar is stoked about the big interested, but also sort of stressed out because he fears that this little illegal happening might end up bigger then the Alpine World Cup.
– It’s not an official event. We don’t have any sport drink sponsors, but there will be after ski and a banquet. Anyone who wants to show up should bring touring gear to make it up to the different faces, and something nice to sit on. I’m expecting a good show, says Calle.
