Honestly. Spring skiing beats powder skiing 8 days out of 7. You are packing light, your technique tends to get 23% better in warmer conditions and the whole mountain is like a soft playground. Nothing beats skiing in spring!

There are a couple of gear that will make your spring twice as comfortable. The weather can easily shift from -5 Celcius in the morning to + 15 in the afternoon. Something that can put a strain on your equipment. The snow can be super slow if your skis have dry bases. There are a number of things that can amplify you spring time on the mountain.

This is the gear you can’t do without this spring.

Spektrum - Kall

There is no place a pair of shades comes more handy than on a sunny mountain. The light piercing yopur eyes is the equivalent of a thousand sunbeds blasting your eyes. What you need is a dark lens that shuts the most light out possible, still offering you contrasts. That is the the Kall sunglasses from Spektrum. The company is located approx 1 cm from the base of the mountain, so of course they know how to produce good sunglasses for these types of conditions.

Kall provides wide protection and the tilt and shape gives you protection superior to compareable frames. It enhances peripheral protection for an optimized experience.
The Zeiss base lens is ideal for prolonged use during bright and sunny days, much like spring skiing.

Extrem Kohla - Peak Mixmohair

Spring season is touring season. Long days of light allowes you to take the time needed to reach certain spots. The warmth makes the snow more predictable compared to the winter season. It's hard in the mornings, which is an advantage during spring if you like touring. Later during the day it (almost) always softens and makes for great skiing conditions.

The change in the snow during the day puts some more demands on your skins. Wet snow or icy snow can make your skins not work properly depending on wich skins you use.

What is a good skin for spring conditions? The Extrem Kohla is a very good example of a great skin. The mix of Mohair and Nylon makes this a trusty companion during the shifting sprin temperatures.

The Mixmohair range is focused on the optimal combination between excellent grip and gliding properties. Compared to a pure mohair skin, this skin is more durable but does not have the same gliding properties. This is the skin for ski mountaineers that are looking for a durable skin for all snow conditions. Mixmohair (65% mohair / 35% nylon).

A small yet big backpack is what you want during the spring season. A backpack not too much of a burden to carry with you at any times, that still fit all you need to be out all day.

You want to feel free on the mountain during spring. You never know how the day will turn out. All of a sudden its the best day of the year and you want to stay in a zone far from the ski lifts.
Thats what your backpack is for. Water, relief of your mid layer perhaps, ava gear, sandwiches, coffe and extra gloves is something you always want to bring. Specially the extra gloves since the snow is so moist this time of year.
